An introduction to the nature of sound, the musical scale and
the basic design of brass instruments.
The following pages were originally written to form part of the
website of a brass band. They attempted to explain some of the
basic science behind music and the making of music with brass
instruments particularly in mind - and to answer the sort of
questions that were not infrequently asked by the people who
attended our concerts.
